Root of worldwide abortion?

4
‍‍15 May 2013 - 6 Sivan 5773

Many who pray for Israel are not aware that abortion is widespread here. In fact, the government offers two free abortions to each young woman serving her two years in the Israeli Defense Forces. Be’ad Chaim, a Messianic pro-life ministry in Israel, estimates that every fourth pregnancy in Israel is terminated by abortion. Could this infanticide be tied to the ancient worship of an abominable god?

Shavuot – a big day for Israel, twice

Peter Preaching at Pentecost

Tuesday at sunset begins the Jewish Festival of Weeks, called Shavuot in Hebrew. Many of us know it by its Greek name, Pentecost. Pentecost is not an exclusive “Christian” event. Firstly, Pentecost is what the Greek-speaking Jews of the first century called Shavuot. Secondly, the 120 who were the first to experience the comforting Spirit of Truth that Yeshua promised in John 14 were all practicing Jews. So were the 300 baptized after Peter’s sermon that day.

Ami Ortiz with his parents

In March of 2008, an Israeli teen found a holiday package on his door step. It was Purim, the day Jews celebrate their deliverance from Haman’s plot to rid Persia of the Jews. The boy took the package inside. When he opened it, it exploded, shrapnel ripping his body. Ami Ortiz is a pastor’s son. The family’s offense: believing and proclaiming that Yeshua (Jesus) is the promised Messiah of Israel.

Keys to praying for the new government of Israel

In Psalm 45, the psalmist is talking about Messiah, who is the essence of good government. Jesus is the standard of perfect government. He is the only wise King, the best measure of what good government should look like. From this passage we see four keys to good government: righteousness, humility, truth, justice. As Netanyahu’s new government goes forward, we should pray these qualities for him and his leadership.

After his resurrection, Jesus met two men on the road to Emmaus, and he expected them to already understand through the Scriptures that Christ was meant to suffer and die. “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” We would all have loved to be there on the road to Emmaus that day, walking with the resurrected Jesus himself as he detailed the different prophecies that concerned his death and resurrection. Still, the New Testament writers do a good job of filling us in.

Esther accuses HamanThe famed foiling of the wicked plot of Haman to blot out the Jews is, of course, one of the more dramatic narratives in the Bible. In addition to the many twists in the plot, there are also some surprises hidden behind the text itself. It is significant that the name of the book itself, Esther, means “something hidden”

Understanding the mercy in the judgments of God

Storm clouds in the desert -- LeoCub on RGBStock.comIn order to pray in line with God, we need to know God as He is. We need to pray in line with who God is and the way God works. I hear the LORD saying, “If you will understand that the purpose of my judgments is to bring forth redemption, mercy and salvation in the earth, you will understand it is a great message of hope.”

When nations tweak God’s laws

Nebuchadnezzar by William BlakeWhen a country’s ruler second-guesses, ignores or violates Holy Writ, a gap is created in the spirit, a vacuum which opens the door to evil spiritual influence — the spirit which mockingly questions, “Has God really said …?” Invoking the name of the God of the Bible, while simultaneously advocating acceptance of behaviors that the God of the Bible calls morally sinful — this is unstable spiritual ground on which to stand. It indicates that apart from individual and national repentance, the judgments outlined in Romans chapter 1 will not delay; they will certainly come.

israel-ME-map-thumbChuck Missler of the Koinonia Institute recaps last week’s Middle East headlines on Egypt, Israel and Syria. The item that caught my ear is that the United States will send the first of 20 F-16 fighter jets promised to Egypt on Jan. 22. That is the day after President Obama’s inauguration, the same day as Israeli elections.
