‘Suffer the little children to come’ to Yeshua

[Editor’s note: I ran across a news story that urgently prompted me to share this Rick Ridings word with you. The story is “The Child Killers” by Newsweek. It reports on Belgium’s push to legalize the euthanasia of children. Life News reports that “The Netherlands already allows children over the age of 12 to request euthanasia with the consent of their parents.” It’s as if abortion isn’t enough for Satan. His over-eagerness to kill off a whole generation is a sign. As Rick points out in the article below, Satan only goes to those lengthens when he fears what’s on the horizon.]

We at Succat Hallel in Jerusalem have prayed for many years that God would move powerfully among the youth. In 2007, we began an Israeli youth conference now known as Elav (Hebrew for “Unto Him”). This year, by God’s grace, there were about 800 Jewish and Arab teens and young adults together for three days to seek God in this conference.

While we will continue to pray for a move of the Holy Spirit among the young people of Israel, I believe the Holy Spirit is saying for Israel, and all the world, “I am aiming younger and younger.” We’re going to see some very powerful things begin to happen with little children.

End-time strategy of the kingdom for children

Children worship at the Elav youth conference in Israel.
Children worship at the Elav youth conference in Israel.

When Satan knew a deliverer was being prepared in Egypt, he killed the Hebrew boys under 2 years old in an effort to kill the deliverer. When he saw the angels gathering over Bethlehem, he killed the boys under 2 years old in Bethlehem in an effort to kill Messiah.

The LORD showed me that not only is abortion an assignment against this generation which is called to come forth in might and power, but there is also a demonic strategy which is planting an irrational fear of marriage and of having children in the minds of this generation.

When I shared this in our Elav Israeli youth conference, I asked the young people to stand if they had ever had an irrational fear about marriage or having children. I was shocked by the number of young people who responded! After we prayed to break the hold of that spirit, there were young people who said they felt like literal chains had fallen off them.

The enemy is attacking marriage and parenthood because God wants to use children to manifest and extend his kingdom on earth.

In Mark 10:13-16 we see that

People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’ And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.” (NIV)

Jesus doesn’t say “Leave the kids with a babysitter while you have great times in my Presence.” He is saying a little child can enter into the kingdom of God. He’s saying it’s actually easier for them than it is for us. Why? Because a lot of what we adults think we know, we have to unlearn before we can enter into the kingdom of God.

We have underestimated what children can do as we release them to minister in the power of the Holy Spirit.

My adoptive father was a pastor, a man ahead of his time. While a lot of children’s ministries were just doing stories and games, he was encouraging leaders to get the children into places where they could be baptized in the Holy Spirit and experience and use the gifts.

By God’s grace, I was baptized in the Holy Spirit at 8 years old. The anointing was so strong that for hours I couldn’t speak in English, only in tongues. Soon after that, I was having prophecies and seeing visions from the LORD.

I thought all of this was normal – for children to spend hours worshiping and weeping before the LORD. Only when I was older did I find that most churches didn’t do that.

Let us pray that the Body of Christ will get a revelation of what God wants to do in and through little children.

To Israel first

In Joel 2 (quoted in Acts 2), it says “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.” (Joel 2:28-29 NIV)

Remember Joel is a Jewish prophet to Israel. Picture him standing in Jerusalem as he proclaims. In the listeners’ minds, it might have sounded more like this.

And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on the goyim (gentiles). Then your sons and daughters will prophesy…

God is saying to the Jewish people, “I’m not just going to let this stay here in Israel. I’m going to pour my Holy Spirit even on the gentile nations. When I do, at that time, the sons and daughters of Israel are going to start prophesying, seeing visions, dreaming dreams.”

Season for ancient roots to put forth new branches

There was a tremendous move of the Holy Spirit among little children in France and French-speaking Switzerland in the late 1600s.

“Suddenly, in various places, many persons, especially the young, were smitten with something which the historians call ‘ecstasy.'” says an article titled “The Little Prophets of the Cevennes.” They “broke out into exhortations – fervent, eloquent, correct, well-chosen, appropriate, mostly in good French, which was not the language they ordinarily spoke.” (1)

A church historian I met told me about Isabeau Vincent, a Huguenot shepherd girl of 14 or so, who prophesied in her sleep in 17th century France.

Isabeau reportedly could not read nor write. In February 1688, she began prophesying. “She spoke, and that in a most fervent and edifying manner, calling on those present to repent,” it is reported in “The Prophets of Cevennes.” “Her first sermons were in her native tongue, and as her audience began to include persons who knew and spoke French, she spoke in that language and in the most correct manner.” (1)

She was soon arrested by anti-Reformation forces. (2) When told to recant her faith, she told the judges that even if they executed her, “God would raise up others” to take her place. (3) By the next year, there were reports of up to 600 prophets in southeastern France. (1)

Persecution quenched this outpouring. “In 1700 it burst out afresh, and soon again becoming universal, was as much distinguished as in 1688, for the extreme youth of its subjects. According to several of the testimonies made in London in 1707, many children between the ages of three and twelve were among the prophets.” (1)

Again, violent persecution would quench this movement and force the surviving Huguenots to flee the region.

I received an invitation to speak in Switzerland this past September. I felt the LORD say that there is a root of a children’s revival in France and in French-speaking Switzerland that he is going make sprout again. The LORD gave me this verse to proclaim:

“At least there is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail. Its roots may grow old in the ground and its stump die in the soil, yet at the scent of water it will bud and put forth shoots like a plant.” (Job 14:7-9 NIV)

A friend ministering in an old French reformed church shared a testimony with us. In that church, people started to be born again and filled with the Holy Spirit. She told us that several times in the past few months, little children, even 2 and 3 years old, had words of knowledge for adults that changed their lives.

She told of a 2-year old who awakened his parents in the middle of the night and said they urgently needed to pray for a certain person. The next morning, that person was diagnosed with cancer. She shared another example of a pastor whose father was about to die. When he and his wife went to visit him, the mother had a very difficult time emotionally. Their two-and-a-half year old said, “Mommy, you are not struggling with the death of Daddy’s father, but with the death of your own father.”

In Psalm 8:2, the psalmist says “Through the praise of children and infants [God has] established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. ” (NIV)

I believe we’re going to see more and more children prophesying, having words of knowledge, healing and working miracles as they lay hands on people.

Making room for new branches

We must pray and make room for the new branches, for this work of the Holy Spirit among children.

Obviously, children are still children. They need to mature. They need adult supervision but not adult quenching.

I believe the LORD doesn’t want us to try to make something happen or to manipulate in any way. We just need to pray, “LORD, pour out your Holy Spirit on the children. Help us recognize it when it happens.”

We need to pray that little children will hear the LORD in the middle of the night like Samuel. We need to be like Eli. When God starts doing something, let’s encourage them and say: “That’s the LORD. Listen to the LORD.”

We must pray out generational blessing

When Yeshua received the children, He touched them and prayed a blessing over them. I am so blessed that in most of the Messianic homes, the fathers pray a blessing over each of their children every Friday night at the Shabbat meal.

We need to pray blessing over children and grandchildren, and to prophesy over them. We must recognize what God is doing and call that forth in their lives.

We must contend

The violent take the kingdom by force, so we must contend for this outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Satan is not going to give up the kids without a fight. This is a battle. We need to contend for the children.

  1. Pray a daily hedge of protection around your children or grandchildren. Pray that no weapon formed against them will prosper. Bind witchcraft and curses and demonic assignments. Pray protection from confusion, harassment or division, from spiritual, mental, emotional or physical fatigue, injury or illness. If you don’t have children, pray this over the children around you.
  2. Pray people through the process of godly testing and formation. God allows us to go through things that break us of our own self-sufficiency so we will depend on him. Pray them through the process of God forming their character.
  3. Break off the demonic strategies against this children’s movement: abortion, fear of marriage, and the fear of having children. Pray Psalm 127:3-5.
  4. Arise and take back what’s been stolen from our children and grandchildren. In I Samuel 30 David and his men return from battle to discover that an enemy had taken their wives and children. Even though David was exhausted, he pursued and took back their wives and children from the enemy. Pray Isaiah 49:24-25.
