Syria is in a civil war and threatening its neighbors (felt most acutely in Israel). Assad is calling on Russia for help, upsetting many other nations. That’s the big picture.
Important, but we mustn’t forget the people on the ground. Several headlines this week remind us that the civilians caught in the crossfire are suffering fear, death, hunger.
Same in North Korea. Here’s another government that regularly threatens other nations. Now torrential rains are making it harder for an already starving people.
Drought in India and the United States should prompt us to cry out to God for mercy. I’m heartened to see a solemn assembly planned in Charlotte, North Carolina, just before the Democratic National Convention.
Paper.li, the newsgathering app I’m using, is in complete working order (so pleased). Just a reminder that it works a little like a newspaper. It categorizes the news into topics and is interactive. Click a topic on the right-hand column to “flip the page” and see another set of headlines. #Church includes headlines about persecution of the brothers. #Israel has all stories about “the apple of God’s eye.”
Also, click on “Media” to see videos. This week, videos include a prayer update on Syria and our weekly dose of satire from Latma.
