By Rick Ridings / Succat Hallel
There is a real sense of acceleration here in Jerusalem. As the violence continues in Syria and the world talks Iran, I want to share some of what the LORD has been speaking to us at Succat Hallel. Here are three prayer points particularly for intercessors with a burden for Israel and the Middle East.
Proclaim Life Over the Waters
In March 2009, I had a vision in which I saw the map of Israel like a raw steak. There were witches calling wolves from the north and east and sharks from waters to the west. They were all coming to devour Israel. As intercessors cried out, God had angels pour the blood of Yeshua (Jesus) around all the borders, even the sea borders. The blood rose up like a red brick wall. The witches threw their sorcery, but it would run down the wall instead of coming into the Land. The clock moved from five minutes midnight to 10 minutes to midnight.
In a second vision, intercessors cried out again. This time LORD put huge warring angels around Israel with silver trumpets. As they blew their horns, the witches pulled back, the wolves ran away, and the sharks swam away. The clock then moved to quarter to midnight, indicating a window of mercy.
Through this vision, we sensed the LORD saying that we needed to watch in prayer over the waters. This has been confirmed even in the natural by news headlines. A year ago, in March 2011, the Israeli navy intercepted a ship headed to Egypt carrying Iranian arms and advanced anti-ship missiles hidden in a load of cotton and lentils. This was just two weeks after Iranian warships entered the Mediterranean Sea through the Suez Canal and docked in Syria (Katz).
More recently, the Holy Spirit has highlighted to us straits and canals, particularly the Bosporus Strait, which cuts through Istanbul, Turkey; the Suez Canal, which connects the Red Sea with the Mediterranean; and the Strait of Hormuz, through which must pass “roughly 35 percent of all seaborne traded oil, or almost 20 percent of oil traded worldwide” (World Oil).
The Straight of Hormuz is a potential flash point. Iran has recently threatened to shut down the straight in retaliation for economic sanctions and even threatened U.S. Navy ships in the vicinity (Al-Jawahiry).
The enemy is trying to bring death out of the waters. God continues to confirm that word to us. Last year, many from the Succat Hallel staff took a boat from Acre in northern Israel and got as close to the Lebanon water border as we could. Out there, we poured water from the Elisha Spring in Jericho into the sea and declared what Elisha said in 2 Kings 2:21 (NIV): “This is what the LORD says: ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.’”
On February 23, 2012, fishermen caught a rare 10-foot shark off the coast of Acre (Hartman). I believe God is trying to get our attention. Something is lurking in the waters. We’ve got to keep proclaiming, keep coming with the hammer of God’s Word, proclaiming: “The voice of the LORD is over the waters. These waters shall bring forth life and not death”.
Even as we focus on the waters of the Middle East, we also are praying for the waters surrounding North and South Korea.
It has now been reported that North Korea has developed a new torpedo that is almost impossible to detect by sonar and also a mini-submarine that has almost no sonar trace. Interestingly enough, the submarine is called the Shark (“North Korea”)! Credible sources report that North Korea is supplying Syria and Iran with these mini-subs (Hwang).
Proclaim Psalm 29:3-4, 10-11 over the waters (quoted in NIV):
The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD thunders over the mighty waters.
The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic.
Proclaim the Lordship of Yeshua Over the Weather
This January set a record in Israel for the most days with rainfall in one month (Udasin). It rained 29 days out of 31 in January. The previous record was 24 days in 1947, a little more than a year before Israel would declare statehood and have to fend off five invading armies.
It is prophetically significant that the rain came so powerfully as the nation was about to be reborn. Rain is a sign of God’s favor (Deut. 28:12). So today the LORD is reassuring us of His favor on Israel in what could be a tumultuous year.
It is important that we speak to the winds to protect Israel, particularly if Syria does have those weapons of mass destruction that were never found in Iraq.
I know a man who personally assisted in the questioning of an Iraqi general who served under Saddam Hussein. The general said that just before Iraq was invaded, they moved a lot of their chemical weapons into Syria (at least two generals have made similar reports to U.S. Media: Stoll, Mauro). Many believe Syria today has one of the world’s largest stockpiles of chemical weapons (Solomon).
We report this not to bring fear. We need to quiet ourselves and trust the LORD. But we need to understand that it is a very real threat at the present moment. The concern is that Syria’s president Bashar al-Assad may attack Israel to either rally the Arab nations or, seeing all lost, to seek to make a name for himself.
We need to pray that the winds will be sovereignly directed by the LORD should any chemical or biological weapons be released.
Read and pray into Exodus 14:13-22. Verse 21 and 22 (NIV) say:
“Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. “
Pray for the breath of the LORD, a strong east wind to show God’s power against His enemies. We can command the winds under the direction of the Holy Spirit, even as Moses did.
Scriptures to proclaim to the wind:
Psalms 78:26 (NIV) – He let loose the east wind from the heavens and led forth the south wind by his power.
Ezekiel 27:26 (NIV) – Your oarsmen take you out to the high seas. But the east wind will break you to pieces in the heart of the sea.
Psalms 48:7 (NIV) – You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish shattered by an east wind.
Pray Israel’s Enemies Will Fall into the Trap They Have Laid for Israel
In the book of Esther, Haman not only plans to eradicate the Jews from the Persian Empire but also builds a gallows on which to kill Mordecai. Instead, the king has Haman killed on his own gallows.
Pray Psalm 9:15-16 & 19-20, that the nations who plot against Israel will fall in to the pit they have dug and get caught in the net they have laid.
Pray from Exodus 14:13-22, that the persecuting nations will be lured into a trap by the LORD just as Pharaoh was lured into the Red Sea. Pray that Israel’s enemies will make strategic errors, even as Pharaoh did.
Pray for mercy. God’s judgments are not just to show power but are meant to be redemptive. God acts so that man will know His Name and know that the LORD of Israel is God. (Psalm 9:16).
