U.S. literally shakes; Israel ponders who her friends are

Knowing world events clues us in to where we are on the Biblical, prophetic time line. News should prompt us to pray for two things: that the eyes of the lost and deceived are opened to God’s love as expressed through the life and death and life of Yeshua and that God’s Kingdom come on earth.

Why so much Israel news? God always meant Israel to be an example to the nations, an example of His righteousness, His justice, His mercy, His love. She is also a signpost. Consider this. Zion, God’s other name of Jerusalem, means “signpost.”Messiah draws nigh. The events in Zion speak to that.

Camera and pen

It was not a quiet week. Much to ponder, pray into.

Here in Israel, Glenn Beck’s ‘Restoring Courage’ rallies showed how split Israelis are: some on the right welcome any Zionist partners while most on the left detest anyone who doesn’t see it their way (and even ‘journalists’ weren’t above mocking on the job). Here’s a rightist analysis from one of my new favorite columnists, Caroline Glick (check out her accomplished bio) and the Jerusalem Post asking why other Israeli media were so cool to Beck.

Back Stateside, it was a shaky week in the natural, which points to instability in the spiritual. First, there was the earthquake in southern Colorado (and it’s aftershocks). One of the first news reports caught my eye because it said that the last time there was a group of quakes in Colorado was August-September 2001. I immediately felt in my spirit that this was a warning. If I had any doubt, it was shattered by the 5.9 earthquake in Virginia that was felt from Toronto, Ontario, to the Carolinas. The Washington Monument is cracked.

And as I write, Hurricane Irene is blowing along the Eastern Seaboard. New York City is shutting down as it wait to see how bad the storm will be.

These are just warnings. Really. They are loud wakeup calls, especially to Believers, to pray for mercy and to get the word out that the Kingdom of God is at hand. “Yeah, yeah. We’ve heard it before,” some will say. It’s not necessarily about the end of the age. It’s about the fragility and brevity of life. Will you choose God before your last breath? I won’t say more. Joseph Farah at World Net Daily and Joel C. Rosenberg have said it quite well already.

A coalition of chaplains and other service members is urging members of Congress to stand up for religious freedom in the wake of the appeal of the ban on homosexual military service. A chaplain attended a briefing by Joint Chiefs chairman Admiral Mike Mullen and asked “Will those of us who hold biblical orthodox views concerning homosexuality be protected in this new environment to speak about those views?” The response he received was, “Chaplain, if you can’t get in line with this policy, resign your commission.”

One more thing if you’ve made it this far. Sunday is Gilad Schalit’s 25th birthday. He was kidnapped by Hamas more than 5 years ago. Hamas has never let the Red Cross visit this “prisoner of war”… more really a hostage. Please pray for his release, that he and his captors would know Messiah… that His parents would know Messiah… that God would continue to sustain Gilad’s parents through this nightmare.

  1. When we choose to live in blindness, we must acknowledge we made this choice. – God is always providing a way for us to choose to come to the saving knowledge of Yeshua. Thank you for reminding us of the continual warnings and directing us to reading these news articles.
